CELLAR SIPS PART II: ITALY!
WEDNESDAY, NOV 5 | 5:00 - 7:00 PM | $35
1 bubbles, 1 white, 4 reds | 18 tickets
Join us for the second tasting in our three-part series, Cellar Sips, where we sample through wines from our collection - older vintages, rare bottles and Flyleaf favorites from our wall. Travel to Italy in Part II of this series, where you'll take a deep dive into highly allocated (aka high demand but hard to find - only certain distributors and retailers have been to allocated to receive them) wines from a number of Italian winemakers, including Elisabetta Foridori and Arriana Occhipinti, who have made their mark in the wine world. Foridori, a pioneer of biodynamic wine, is focused on ensuring her wines are a true reflection of indigenous grapes. In Sicily, Occhipinti produces some of the world's most highly sought-after natural wines, thanks to her old-vine vineyards and regenerative farming approach.
Wines of Châteauneuf-du-Pape
SUNDAY, NOV 9 | 3:00 - 5:00 PM | $35
First and Second Floor
2 whites, 4 reds | 28 tickets
Meet the maker of some of the most exclusive wines of southern France.
Fourth generation winemaker and Château de la Font du Loup owner Anne-Charlotte Melia-Bachas will be with us for this afternoon tasting of six pours from Châteauneuf-du-Pape. The "new house of the Pope" region is France’s very first wine designation, known for amazing, ageworthy blends of Grenache and Syrah. Château de la Font du Loup has some of the northernmost vineyard plantings near the “fountain of the wolf,” the natural springs that feed ground water in the area. These high elevations grant them some of of the region's slowest ripening vines.Combined with some of their 100 year old plantings, these wines are not to be missed. Reserve a table for brunch, then join us for the tasting!
MEET THE AUTHOR AND BOOK SIGNING
HOUSE OF DIGGS by Dr. Marion Orr
TUESDAY, NOV 11 | 5:00 - 7:00 PM | Free to attend
Second Floor
How is it possible that the man who founded the Congressional Black Caucus, helped ignite the American anti-apartheid movement, and was the only federal official to attend the trial of Emmett Till’s murderers has all but vanished from public memory? Charles C. Diggs Jr. was once among the most influential Black legislators in America. But until now, no full biography has captured the scale of his legacy, or reckoned with the scandal that pushed it into the shadows.
House of Diggs by Dr. Marion Orr, Frederick Lippitt Professor of Public Policy, Professor of Political Science and Urban Studies at Brown University, is the first book to tell the full story. Charles Diggs was Michigan’s first Black member of Congress and a behind-the-scenes power broker of the civil rights era. He worked closely with Martin Luther King Jr., fought early to end segregation in airport terminals, restored home rule to Washington, DC, and was a crucial voice on international human rights, shaping Black politics on both sides of the Atlantic.
Join us to learn more about this powerful force in history. Dr Orr will be on hand for a meet and greet, signing and Q&A, and special guest, Detroit personality Greg Dunmore, founding partner of Pulsebeat Media, will be joining us to help facilitate what is sure to be an enlightening discussion!
Please RSVP if you plan to attend. Book preorders strongly encouraged. This event takes place on our second floor.
